Light Up A Life — Honoring Loved Ones, Living or Deceased

light up lifeDuring this past holiday season, the Signature XL Hospice offices in Idaho took part in a wonderful state-wide event called Light Up a Life. Started in 2013, this special event is a way to celebrate and honor the lives of loved ones, living or deceased.

“Surrounded by community members who have experienced loss, attendees wrote their loved ones name and a message on a paper sky lantern then released it into the night sky,” says Sheryl Ford, Social Worker and Bereavement Coordinator. “Everyone commented on the personal significance of the event and how beautiful the sky lanterns were as they floated skyward.”

According to news reports, the evening Light Up a Life was held on was filled with music, reflection and s shared sense of joy amongst event goers. Approximately 150 participants joined the Idaho XL Hospice staff as they launched their heartfelt memories into the night sky. “I believe it is a big attraction because it is “safe” and personal setting to grieve and honor those who have died,” says Terri Roberts, Administrator. “It’s is such a different experience than attending a grief support group which can at times be intimidating to some people.”
