No One Dies Alone Program
In 2006, when the program was losing its organizer, Signature Hospice stepped in to continue its important work. Since then, we have grown the"No One Dies Alone" program to include more than 150 volunteers serving 39 senior care facilities in the Portland metropolitan area. Our No One Dies Alone volunteers compassionately sit and hold a bedside vigil with residents or patients who are in their last 24 or 36 hours of life. The program supports a time when no more nursing is needed, but the loving presence of someone who cares is very welcomed. Families are extremely appreciative of volunteers of nobody dies alone who give them a break—and the assurance that their loved one won't be alone during the final stages of life.
The program is available to all and is not dependent on the participation in a particular Hospice Program. Not only are the patient and their family rewarded by this program, but the No One Dies Alone volunteers express how gratifying the experience is for them, as well.
